This month, from the 30th to the 31st, I'm going to do a TBR sprint! Anything that's been on my TBR pile for a while is going to get read over those two days. Maybe not to the point of completion because some of those books are SUPER long, but I'm going to do my best to get close!
You are welcome to join me!

My readathon attempt in July lead to some revelations.
First, let me share the results. 1) I read for 21 hours over three days. 2) During those three days I finished five books. I've decided that I am still going to run a 30-in-3 readathon, but it won't be every month. That's just too hard to handle for anyone. What I will do instead is other reading challenges. One month, it might be the 30-in-3. Another, it might be 30 for the whole month. Another, it might be read 3 books of a certain genre. There's a lot to play with. What will the August challenge be? Read 30 hours by the end of the month. Divide it up however you want! Still use #30in3dathon to log your progress on instagram or twitter. Looking for another event to participate in? www.24hourreadathon.com is happening August 6th/7th. This one is always a blast! As the last full weekend of July is approaching, I've realized that life is too crazy for me to do 30 hours of reading this weekend.
Anyone who feels up to the task, please do so and share your progress! Otherwise, I'm going to shift this month's challenge to something more low key. 30 hours before July 31st. That's 11 days to read! Have fun! 1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? Midwest USA
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? Rule of Wolves, I'm excited to finish it at last! 3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? Pretzels, I'm boring this year. 4) Tell us a little something about yourself! When I'm asked questions like that, I almost always buckle under the pressure to be interesting and say something really dull instead. 5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? Today, I'm hoping to actually read! I've been stuck the past few times. :/ We skipped March, I know. Things were hectic and I lost track of time quickly.
April is going to be low key. I won't have a sign up, but I will do a post readathon check in! This month's readathon also coincides with the Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon! I highly recommend going over and signing up! I've got my book list! I'm all set to read a lot! My heavy reading day is going to be Saturday. I'm hoping that this weekend will refresh me for some super productive writing time next week! Come join in the fun! Read some books! Or just one really great one! Whatever is your speed. I didn't read anywhere near as much as I wanted to this weekend, so I'm sad about that. However, I am already thinking of how to be better prepared for March. Basically, this month was a big fail for me. But...I'm okay with that. There will be other months! It's okay if things didn't go as you planned either.
This particular read-a-thon really snuck up on me! I have my books all chosen, but I'm not feeling prepared in terms of making sure I have the days open for the event.
So what do you do when you want to do a read-a-thon but aren't sure you can commit to the event as a whole? Some people people would just skip it, but I'm here to tell you that isn't necessary. Read-A-Thons aren't always about reading for the entire duration of the event. They're just about reading as much as you can. This weekend, I highly doubt I'll hit 30 hours of reading. I have a lot of work to do, and I can't put it off like I normally would. How am I going to prepare? 1) I will be doing my best to stay on top of my work for the week and also trying to get ahead so that I have less to do on the weekend. If not, so be it! 2) I will be planning work breaks on the weekend so I that I can squeeze some hours in. 3) I will be counting some of my work as reading! Because I'm going to be editing/proofing a book, and that involves a lot of reading. 4) I will be keeping my meals simple and multitasking a lot of my activities to not waste unnecessary time. 5) I will accept that I'm not going to hit 30 hours so I'm not overly stressed trying to force something to happen. My goal is to just read something, and if I can finish a book or two, awesome. If not, that's okay too. As long as I get a little closer, I'm happy! I had every intention of writing a post over the weekend for mid readathon tips and check-ins. I thought I'd have the time to write them, and boy was I mistaken! So lesson learned: write and schedule posts in advance of the event!
What happened? Life. A few things ended up happening spontaneously this weekend, and they weren't the kind of things I could read during. In general, I was woefully prepared, though. For example, I usually get an audiobook for the car that is child appropriate. That didn't happen this time, so I lost a lot of reading time due to driving. I also spent more time socializing than I'd planned. Not a bad thing, just not in the plan. Oh, and I watched more TV than planned too. Here's what went well though: I read 11 books. Ten of those books were graphic novels, and one was an audiobook. I also feel more mentally refreshed than I have in a while. In total, I got about 20 hours worth of reading done. I've got plenty to think on for February's event! Most of what I'm about to share here is just things I've encountered in my many years of doing readathons through other groups. A few that I LOVE are Dewey's 24-hour-readathon, and 24-in-48. The latter is the one my challenge is inspired by the most. There are lots of readathons out there, and they all push us toward the same goal: READ MORE BOOKS!
So for those who are new to readathons, here are some basic tips.
Today, I'm going to work on my readathon prep by going to the library and seeing what mysteries it holds. Usually, this means I'll return with a massive stack of Manga. |
